100,000 Businesses?
One Billion Business Opportunities.
The Web did not make business smaller. It made possibility bigger.
A business can begin with a product, a service, a skill, a place, a name, an idea or a problem that somebody knows how to solve. Digital technology gives more people the possibility to build, communicate, sell, collaborate and create value.
No. We did not count them.
One billion is not our estimate of how many businesses will exist. It is a way of refusing to place an artificial limit on ideas, work and digital opportunities.
An Idea
Something new does not necessarily have to begin as a company. It can begin with a simple observation: this could be done differently.
A Skill
Knowledge, experience and the ability to do something well can become a service, a profession, a project or a business.
An Opportunity
Technology connects people, markets, places and information. Sometimes the opportunity already exists. We simply need to be able to see it.
Business is not only a company. It is value in motion.
Work creates value. Skills create value. Technology creates value. Places create value. Information, relationships, creativity and execution can create value.
The digital world allows these elements to connect in combinations that only a few years ago were impossible, expensive or simply invisible.
Web.
Technology.
Business.
This is where the idea becomes practical. Websites, digital identities, software, search, content, infrastructure, networks and people can work together to create new economic possibilities. Not one model. Many models.
Maybe not one billion businesses. But why think small?
The number is intentionally impossible to prove. The principle is much simpler: there are more ideas to explore, more work to create and more digital opportunities to build.
